a. The Hollywood Burbank Airport Replacement Terminal Project, known as "Elevate BUR," is a transformative initiative aimed at constructing a modern passenger terminal to replace the existing outdated facility. Approved by Burbank voters in 2016 through Measure B, the project focuses on enhancing safety, accessibility, and overall passenger experience. The new terminal, spanning 355,000 square feet, will retain the current 14-gate configuration and be located in the airport's northeast quadrant, farther from the runways to meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety standards. Designed to adhere to modern seismic codes and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the facility will feature improved security screening areas, expanded restrooms, and additional restaurant and concession spaces, along with other upgraded amenities. The project also includes constructing supporting infrastructure, such as new parking facilities, an on-airport access road, and an air cargo and maintenance facility. With an estimated cost of $1.2 billion, funded through FAA grants, airport revenue bonds, and contributions from airlines and airport users, the terminal broke ground on January 25, 2024, and is expected to open by October 2026. Elevate BUR represents a significant investment in the future of Hollywood Burbank Airport, promising a safer, more efficient, and more comfortable experience for travelers.
